By virtually eradicating cholera, typhoid, dysentery, & other potentially fatal, waterborne diseases that in past centuries decimated communities and families, the use of chlorine in water treatment has become an essential, lifesaving device that has fundamentally improved the human condition.
However, creating new and ever expanding sources of safe, clean drinking water often competes with growing public demand to reduce the transport of chlorine for water treatment through highly populated areas.
Transportation of chlorine can present risks to community safety if mishandled.
K2 Pure provides a single, simple solution to both issues. K2’s new, Inherently Safe Technology (IST) produces exceptionally pure, high quality bleach for water treatment using nothing but water, salt, and electricity.
Bleach is a growing alternative for chlorine in water treatment and has increasingly become an essential component in large scale treatment and purification of drinking & wastewater the world over. At the same time, most of the bleach for water treatment produced in North America still requires quantities of chlorine to be transported through our communities.
Our goal at K2 is to gradually replace conventional bleach production facilities with our network of state of the art IST plants, and thereby eliminate the need to transport chlorine for purifying and treating water and the associated potential environmental, security and operational risks.
The Inherently Safe
Technology
The K2 Inherently Safe Technology Plant requires water, inert salt, and electricity to produce over 400 tons of product every day.
The production process starts passing electricity through a brine (salt water) solution using advanced bipolar membrane cell technology. A byproduct of this process, hydrogen, is used to reduce green house gas emissions and can be reused to generate electricity.
The products of the electrolysis process are immediately reacted in a state of the art Continuous Bleach Plant which produces bleach of superior purity and quality.
The revolutionary nature of this process lies with the efficient cell membrane technology that has made it economical to operate.
Once produced, our bleach can be safely and easily stored, transported and used for water purification and disinfection or any number of other applications.
K2’s “Inherently Safe Technology” plants offer a safer solution for treating wastewater and drinking water as compared with traditional uses of chlorine water treatment at no additional cost to facilities or taxpayers; while eliminating the need to transport chlorine.
We call our process “Inherently Safe Technology” for three reasons:
The process reduces the need to transport chlorine, a hazardous material used for treating and purifying water, among a myriad of other applications.
The key inputs of salt and water are nontoxic, renewable and naturally occurring.
The outputs are stable, nonhazardous, nontoxic products such as bleach, and caustic soda that can be safely stored and transported for use in water treatment and other applications.
